Kentucky Derby returns thousands for DerbyWars contestants

Kentucky Derby 139 left many DerbyWars horse racing contest players smiling ear to ear and their pockets lined with cash.

This weekend had it all. Head 2 Head games from $20 to $2,000, big survivor tournaments and even bigger cash games. There was literally something for everyone and every type of budget; big or small.

On a day where the track had more water on it than the Atlantic Ocean, winners seemed hard to find at times; but that did not deter player “Mferrozo”, a DerbyWars member since 2011.

Mferrozo ($101.00) took home the top prize of $5,000 in our $10,000 Derby Day Game after scoring several solid price horses. He beat the favored Code West with Bellarmine ($25.20) in the first race of the contest and then scored Berlino Di Tiger ($24.40) in the second race. They would account for nearly 70% of his score at the end of the day. He sealed the deal with Bull Dozer ($10.20) and Lifes Reward ($4.40) in the final two races.

Tracksidejive ($89.00) also put in a stellar effort. He cashed on Bellarmine and Berlino Di Tiger as well as Aubby K ($14.60) and Wise Dan ($5.80). Also, a regular DerbyWars player, he was rewarded with $2,000 for his handicapping prowess on Kentucky Derby day.

Flying G Racing, Murraybyrd, Mike_y and Chestnut rounded out the top six and earned $1,500, $700, $500 and $300, respectively.

The $10,000 event costs $115 to play, but players can qualify through satellite token games for just $15.

Turning $15 into $5,000 is quite the feat and it has already been accomplished many times by players at DerbyWars!

The co-feature DerbyWars horse racing contest event for the weekend was our $2,000 Oaks & Derby Survivor. It featured a stout test of eight races where 195 players were tasked with picking a horse to hit the board in each contest race. Miss one race and you are no longer in the game.

Only 2 players were able to make it to the end of this journey. Those players, Brnr and Jlunny, were able to parlay $12 into $1,000 after watching their picks finish in the money of the Kentucky Derby.

Unsurprisingly, the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby were the toughest tests of the day.

Brnr was able to survive the Oaks with third place finisher Unlimited Budget. Jlunny rode the speedy champion Beholder, who finished second beyond longshot winner Princess of Sylmar.

Then, they used Revolutionary and Orb, respectively, to close the deal in the Kentucky Derby.
The fun doesn’t stop there for DerbyWars contestants.  Kentucky Derby 139 is in the books, but we are already raring to go for the Preakness! The feature event is the $10,000 Preakness Game with races from Pimlico, Belmont and Churchill Downs.
