KSLAZE Scores $10,000 In Final Table, VERMONSTER Repeats!

Sunday: $15,000 two-day Contest

Winner: Kenny Salzman (Kslaze – $82.00)

Kenny Salzman also known as ‘Kslaze’ on DerbyWars bested a field of 84 players over the course of two days to take home a whopping $10,000 grand prize.  The contest started with 84 players on Saturday in which the top ten players were given seats to the final table on Sunday.  Ksalze ended up fourth on Saturday by totaling his winnings to $88.00.  On Sunday every player started at zero and went another 13 races to decide who would take home the $10K prize.

Kenny hit on five out of the thirteen races on the card including the final two in the 6th at SA and the 11th at FG.  Bodie Girl paid $16 in the 6th at SA while Triple Check paid $19.60 in the 11th at FG.  After the victory we just had to ask him how he ended up on these horses:

“My friend told me about a horse named Casino Host running on Sunday.  He told me he was going to run big and he did at 10-1.  Another horse I had was Bodie Girl who I thought was the only speed in the race and she went wire to wire.  In the last race the horse that won (Triple Check) just lost to a horse that ran second to Casino Host earlier in a Grade 2 and I couldn’t believe he was 6-1”

These last two strikes were the final nails in the coffin so to speak as Kenny cemented his victory.  Also worth mentioning is that Kslaze signed up on DerbyWars three days prior to taking home the big $10,000 prize. Could you be the next?

Sunday: Championship Game (Final Table)

Winner: John Esterbrook (Vermonster – $48.80)

Well, the Vermonster has done it again!  Not only did John Esterbrook take down DerbyWars $25,000 Game on March 10th but he also lasted the first ever March Madness Tourney.  John qualified for the final table by being in the top half of finishers in each of the previous five rounds.  This past Sunday Vermonster was joined by Kevin Jones AKA ‘Younique’ for a 15 race showdown in which the winner took home $900.  We were anticipating a great game and there was no disappointment on the players’ behalf.   The contest was decided by $2.80 in which Vermonster ended the game with $48.80 and Younique ended with $46.00.

John only hit three races out of the fifteen in the contest to walk away the March Madness Champ.  His largest score on the day came in the 9th race at FG when Casino Host paid $37.00 for the win-place format.  Over the course of the tourney John tallied up $1,400 and a $175 token.  When Vermosnter was asked about his thoughts about the tourney he replied:

“The format of this tournament appealed to me because the top 50% advanced each time, so I felt like there was some margin for error, especially in the early rounds. I also thought it was an opportunity to get more reps as I try to improve my tournament skills. As it turned out, I got six competitions for that initial $50 buy-in.  I just think Derby Wars is a great way to sharpen my handicapping and tournament ability. It’s nice to have many so different buy-in levels and formats to do that.”

You heard it here folks, more play for less pay!!!

Saturday – Sunday: $1,000 Graded Stakes Survivor

Winner: Steven Okpych (Suffolk OTB – 7 wins)

With all the great stakes races that were offered around the country this past weekend  we at DerbyWars took it upon ourselves to give our players a little treat; a winner take-all $1,000 Survivor Contest.  Races such as the Florida and Louisiana Derby’s were the premier races featured in this contest.  After the first day of competition only 13 players remained out of the 134 that started.  It only took seven out of the eight races listed to crown a winner and when all the smoke had cleared Steve Okpych (Suffolk OTB) was the last one standing.
The seventh race in the contest was the Mervin H. Muniz Jr. Memorial Handicap at Fair Grounds and as Casino Host, Papaw Bodie and Joinem crossed the finish the ten players that entered that race was downsized to one; Steve Okpych.  Steve used Papaw Bodie as his final selection.  This Survivor Contest was the largest payout DerbyWars had ever offered, nice job Suffolk OTB!!
